Coneflower is a flowering plant in family Asteraceae, a member of the genera Rudbeckia, Echinacea or Dracopis
The disk flowers show a cone-like form that often persists after the ray flowers are lost. The genus Rudbeckia is distinguished from other genera by the cylindrical disc of the flower head. Dracopis is a monotypical genus with Dracopis amplexicaulis, distinguished from Rudbeckia (where it used to belong) by the presence of chaff subtending the ray flowers.
These annual or perennial plants are also called Gloriosa daisies or Black-eyed susans.
Some species have been developed into popular cultivars.
