- In industrial chemistry, coke refers to a form of carbon. It is used to make pig iron as part of the steel-making process.
- In modern English language slang, coke is a term for cocaine.
- Coke is an often-generically-used trade name for Coca-Cola, and claimed by the company as a trademark, since 1945. Coca-Cola originally included cocaine, a derivative of the coca plant as an ingredient (hence the name "Coca-Cola").
- "a coke" can be referring to a soft drink of no particular brand name in mind (such as a Dr. Pepper, Sprite or root beer)
