Coatlicue
|
In Aztec mythology, Coatlicue ("skirt of serpents") was the Mother goddess of the earth, the goddess of fire and fertility, and mother of the southern stars. It was said that she was impregnated by a ball of feathers. Her children (including Coyolxauhqui) killed her, but soon after, Huitzilopochtli jumped out of her stomach. Huitzilopochtli killed his brothers and sisters, including Coyolxauhqui. As a virgin, Coatlicue gave birth to Quetzalcoatl and Xolotl. In other legends, Mixcoatl was the father of Huitzilopochtli.ca:Coatlicue es:Coatlicue it:Coatlicue pl:Coatlicue sl:Coatlicue sv:Coatlicue
