Cloyster is Pokémon #091 in the Pokédex. Cloyster once had the highest Defense stat before Pokémon Gold and Silver, being overtaken by Shuckle and Steelix (and then Regirock in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire).

Name origin

"Cloyster" possibly originates from "Clam" and "Oyster." It could also originate from "Clamp" (one of Cloyster's signature moves) and "Oyster." It is worth noting that the word cloister means "to shut away from the world; seclude," much like what Cloyster does by closing its shell.

Information

Cloyster is a bivalve Pokémon, guarded by an extremely strong shell. This shell cannot even be opened by those with superior strength, and it cannot be damaged by a bomb. Nobody has seen its innards. The spike it uses to attack its foes is even stronger than the shell itself.

As a battler, Cloyster would be worth using if it had decent Hit Points (HP). Despite its excellent Defense points, Cloysters dubious HP means that it can't survive as a battler would hope. It also has very poor Special Defense; if any special attacker strikes Cloyster, it could faint almost instantly.

The following attacks strike Cloyster with a super effective hit: Grass, Electric, Fighting, Rock

The following attacks will not effect Cloyster very well: Ice, Water
