Clearfield is a borough located in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 6,631. It is the county seat of Clearfield CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Clearfield is located at 41°1'21" North, 78°26'25" West (41.022555, -78.440233)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.70% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,631 people, 3,070 households, and 1,740 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,406.7/km² (3,649.7/mi²). There are 3,326 housing units at an average density of 705.6/km² (1,830.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.45% White, 0.72% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,070 households out of which 24.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.4% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.3% are non-families. 38.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.83.
In the borough the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.9 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $27,414, and the median income for a family is $40,095. Males have a median income of $29,972 versus $22,607 for females.
