Cimarron is a village located in Colfax County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 917.
Philmont Scout Ranch, an extensive "high-adventure base" operated by the Boy Scouts of America, is located just west of Cimarron.
Geography
Cimarron is located at 36°30'34" North, 104°54'56" West (36.509467, -104.915496)Template:GR.According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 917 people, 382 households, and 255 families residing in the village. The population density is 185.4/km² (479.5/mi²). There are 449 housing units at an average density of 90.8/km² (234.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 77.54% White, 0.11% African American, 1.09% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 17.23% from other races, and 3.93% from two or more races. 58.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 382 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.89.
In the village the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 106.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.7 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $27,875, and the median income for a family is $30,677. Males have a median income of $26,125 versus $19,792 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,248. 12.5% of the population and 9.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.1% of those under the age of 18 and 8.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
