Chouteau is a town located in Mayes County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,931.

Chouteau is located at 36°11'13" North, 95°20'18" West (36.186957, -95.338272)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,931 people, 751 households, and 560 families residing in the town. The population density is 312.0/km² (808.1/mi²). There are 806 housing units at an average density of 130.2/km² (337.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 77.01% White, 0.41% African American, 14.34% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.19% from other races, and 6.84% from two or more races. 1.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 751 households out of which 35.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 22.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.95.
