Cheat Lake is a census-designated place located in Monongalia County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 6,396.
Geography
Cheat Lake is located at 39°39'60" North, 79°51'10" West (39.666538, -79.852683)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the Cheat Lake CDP has a total area of 40.9 km² (15.8 mi²). 37.4 km² (14.4 mi²) of it is land and 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.67% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,396 people, 2,511 households, and 1,822 families residing in the community. The population density is 171.0/km² (442.9/mi²). There are 2,802 housing units at an average density of 74.9/km² (194.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 95.61% White, 1.20% African American, 0.09% Native American, 1.88% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 0.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,511 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% are married couples living together, 6.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% are non-families. 23.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.03.
The age distribution of the community is 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
