Chase County (standard abbreviation: CS) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 3,030. The largest city and county seat is Cottonwood Falls. The county has been the subject of a book by William Least Heat-Moon.

The racial makeup of the county is 96.90% White, 1.02% Black or African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,246 households out of which 28.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.60% are married couples living together, 7.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.40% are non-families. 31.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.92.
