Charles Somerset, 1st Earl of Worcester
|
Charles Somerset, 1st Earl of Worcester was born around 1460 to Henry Beaufort, 3rd Duke of Somerset and Joan Hill. On February 1st, 1513, he was created the 1st Earl of Worcester. He married three times, to Elizabeth Herbert, Elizabeth West, and to Eleanor Sutton. Somerset died on April 15th, 1526. He was invested as Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) around 1496.
With Elizabeth Herbert, whom he married on June 2nd, 1492, he had one son, Henry Somerset, 2nd Earl of Worcester, his heir and successor.
It might be that either he or his first wife was created 1st Baron(ess) Herbert of Raglan, Chepstow and Gower in 1506 and 1st Baron(ess) Herbert of Herbert in 1509; it could also be, that it was neither he nor his wife, but his son and successor.
