Chalco is a census-designated place (CDP) located in northern Sarpy County, Nebraska, directly south of and adjacent to Omaha. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 10,736.
Geography
Chalco is located at 41°11'1" North, 96°8'2" West (41.183539, -96.133791)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²). 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 10,736 people, 3,719 households, and 2,915 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,429.4/km² (3,703.3/mi²). There are 3,758 housing units at an average density of 500.3/km² (1,296.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.24% White, 0.82% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 1.08% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. 2.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,719 households out of which 51.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.0% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 16.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.28.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 33.2% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 43.6% from 25 to 44, 13.9% from 45 to 64, and 1.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.1 males.
