Camp County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 11,549. Its county seat is Pittsburg6. Camp is named for John Lafayette Camp, a Texas politician.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 526 km² (203 mi²). 512 km² (198 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.80% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 11,549 people, 4,336 households, and 3,156 families residing in the county. The population density is 23/km² (58/mi²). There are 5,228 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (26/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 69.53% White, 19.20% Black or African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 9.63% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 14.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,336 households out of which 31.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.20% are married couples living together, 12.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 24.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.09.
In the county, the population is spread out with 26.90% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $31,164, and the median income for a family is $36,142. Males have a median income of $31,870 versus $18,797 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,500. 20.90% of the population and 15.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 30.00% of those under the age of 18 and 16.00% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
