A Cāmara Municipal (literally, "municipal chamber"; can also refer to the building: "town" or "city hall") is the executive body of a concelho (municipality) in Portugal. Its members (vereadores, aldermen) are elected, serve year-round and are paid. The president of a municipal chamber is the candidate for that body who had received the most votes. Each chamber has a council, composed of representatives from a variety of organizations, which serve as a consultative body. The size of these municipal bodies is determined by the number of registered voters within the municipality.
