Brimfield Township, Portage County, Ohio

Brimfield is a census-designated place located in Portage County, Ohio, and is also one of eighteen civil townships in that county. Brimfield Township is formed from Town 2, Range 9 of the Connecticut Western Reserve. The township encompasses both the CDP and areas outside the CDP. As of the 2000 census, Brimfield had a total population of 7,963; 3,248 of whom reside in the CDP.

Brimfield is located in the southwestern portion of the Portage County, at 41°5'26" North, 81°20'51" West (41.090506, -81.347386)Template:GR. It borders or touches the following other townships and municipalities:
- Suffield Township, on the south;
- The village of Mogadore, on the southwest;
- The city of Tallmadge, on the west;
- The city of Stow, on the northwest;
- The city of Kent, on the north;
- Franklin Township, on the north-northeast;
- Ravenna Township, on the northeast (touches, but does not border);
- Rootstown Township, on the east;
- Randolph Township, on the southeast (touches, but does not border)
The township covers a total area of 25 mi². According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.3 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.75% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,248 people, 1,139 households, and 912 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 315.9/km² (817.1/mi²). There are 1,158 housing units at an average density of 112.6/km² (291.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.40% White, 1.75% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,139 households out of which 38.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.4% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% are non-families. 14.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.85 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $40,476, and the median income for a family is $43,558. Males have a median income of $36,830 versus $22,262 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,844. 9.1% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.0% of those under the age of 18 and 3.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
