Battle of Kharkov

Four battles of World War II around the city of Kharkiv (Kharkov in Russian) in Soviet Ukraine are known as the Battle of Kharkov:
- Axis troops captured the city in the First Battle of Kharkov, 1941.
- Soviet forces retook it in the Second Battle of Kharkov, May 1942, but were cut off and destroyed.
- Soviet forces retook the city after the battle of Stalingrad but were driven out again in the Third Battle of Kharkov in February 1943.
- Soviet forces took the city for the final time in the Fourth Battle of Kharkov, August 1943.
