Battle of Autobot City

In the movie "Transformers: The Movie", the Battle of Autobot City on Earth was a major turning point in the Autobot/Decepticon War.
In 2005, the airspace above Autobot City was infiltrated by Decepticons led by Megatron onboard an Earthbound Autobot shuttle.
The shuttle had been sent to Autobot City by Optimus Prime to obtain energon. Decepticons detected the launch and a large contingent attacked the shuttle slaughtering the crew, including Brawn, Inferno, Ironhide, Prowl, and Rachet. The shuttle sustained a large, transformer-sized hull breach which was detected on the shuttle's approach by Daniel and Hot Rod on Earth, watching from Lookout Mountain.
Autobot City, then under the command of Ultra Magnus, was transformed into battle station mode while the primary siege began. A distress signal sent out by Blaster, the communications officer of the base, was jammed after only a few seconds of transmission; however it was received and reinforcements were sent.
By nightfall, Autobot City had sustained heavy damage, and several transformers had gone into stasis lock or been terminated altogether. The following morning, a shuttle holding Autobot reinforcements, including Optimus Prime, arrived as Devastator, a Decepticon gestalt, began ripping into the city.
During the ensuing battle Prime and Megatron challenged one another. The battle was relatively short; however in the end Megatron was seriously wounded, and Optimus Prime fatally so.
In the aftermath of this battle both factions had new leaders, and new troops - The officers stationed in Autobot City joined the main combat force; Megatron was reformatted by Unicron into Galvatron after being thrown out of Astrotrain by Starscream (who was subsequently vaporized by Galvatron); and Optimus Prime passed the Autobot Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus, who took over as leader of the Autobots for a short time.
Immediately following this battle, a more urgent matter put the civil war on hold; the appearance of the chaos-bringer Unicron in Cybertronian orbit.
