BBC Radio Suffolk is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Suffolk, commencing broadcasts on 12th April 1990. It broadcasts from its studios in St Matthews St, Ipswich on 95.5 (Oulton, near Lowestoft), 95.9 (Aldeburgh), 103.9 (Manningtree) and 104.6 (Great Barton, four miles north-east of Bury St Edmunds) FM. The 95.9FM frequency is only recent, and had to be approved by the Netherlands government in case of interference in Holland. There is no MW frequency.
The Manningtree frequency is the strongest. The 470ft high transmitter is actually just outside Colchester, in Essex, and indeed is one of the BBC Essex transmitters. The Great Barton transmitter also has SGR-FM on 96.4FM. The Oulton transmitter also has The Beach on 103.4FM.
In the evenings on weekdays from 7pm, until 1am, output is shared with the rest of BBC East local radio, starting with Nick Lawrence, then from 10pm Keith Skues continues. Both broadcast from Norwich, home of Look East.
