Athens is a borough located in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 3,415.
Geography
Athens is located at 41°57'50" North, 76°31'21" West (41.963809, -76.522608)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²). 4.6 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.28% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,415 people, 1,427 households, and 857 families residing in the borough. The population density is 749.2/km² (1,934.9/mi²). There are 1,500 housing units at an average density of 329.1/km² (849.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 97.83% White, 0.91% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 1.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,427 households out of which 31.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.3% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.9% are non-families. 35.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.98.
