Association for the Advancement of Civil Rights
|
Template:Politics of Gibraltar The Association for the Advancement of Civil Rights was a political party in Gibraltar.
Like all Gibraltarian political parties, it opposed transfer of sovereignty over Gibraltar from the United Kingdom to Spain. As the name of the group implied, it was in favour of greater civil rights for Gibraltarians, removing many of the political disabilities inherent in any territory with colonial status.
It won eight of fifteen available seats in the election of 1984 to the House of Assembly, making it the dominant party. However, in subsequent elections it did not fare as well, taking seven seats and going into oppostition in 1988. In 1992 it failed to return any members, and has essentially dissolved.Template:Gib-stub
