Argyll and Bute (Earra-Ghaidheal agus Bòd in Gaelic) is one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland, and a Lieutenancy Area.
Its border runs through Loch Lomond, and it adjoins the regions of West Dunbartonshire and Highland.
The principal part of the council region is the traditional county of Argyll, excluding the Morvern area, north of Mull, which is now part of Highland. The region also includes the Isle of Bute itself (which is part of the traditional county of Bute) and Helensburgh and Lomond which is part of Dunbartonshire.
The regional administrative centre is located in Lochgilphead.
Argyll and Bute covers the largest administrative area of any Scottish council. Including islands, there are over 3,000 miles of coastline – it is stated that this is more than the whole of France.
