Apu trilogy

The Apu Trilogy is three films directed by the late director Satyajit Ray, who won an Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1992. These films are Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar or The World of Apu. The films were based on the works of the great Bengali litterateur Bibhuti Bhusan Bandopadhyay, these films when released in the 1950s, had the distinct trace of French Impressionism, Italian Neoclassicism and Hollywood.
This trilogy is universally acknowledged to be the greatest filmic achievement of Indian film. Pather Panchali won 12 international prizes, followed by golden lion in Venice for Aparajito and numerous other awards for Apur Sansar. Satyajit went onto create other masterpieces like Charulata and Aranyer Dinratri.
