History

Andover was the site of a large train wreck which, common local myth incorrectly cites as the source of the name of the city. The popular yarn is that a typographical error in a local paper stated that the train rolled over Andover, and, thus the name.

Actually, the name Andover pre-dates the train wreck and is evidenced by train schedules listing "Andover Station" prior to the wreck.
