History
Before 1945, Andheri was administered by a Collector in charge of the "Suburban District". With the creation of Greater Bombay in 1945, the administration was merged with the rest of Bombay city. A lot of popular residential areas in Mumbai like Juhu, 4 Bungalows, 7 Bungalows and the posh 'Lokhandwala' are all part of Andheri.
Educational institutes
Andheri is famous for its Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan group of institutions:
- Bhavan's College (Inaugrated in 1946 by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel)
- Sardar Patel College of Engineering
- S P Jain Management Institute
Hansraj Morarji Public School is a school in Andheri, founded in 1939. Famous alumni include:
- Viren Shah, Governor of West Bengal & Managing Director, Mukand Iron.
- Upendra Patel, Managing Director, Dinesh Silk Mills
- Dr. Vaidya, an eminent plastic surgeon.
- Shri Harish Bhimani, TV and dubbing artiste.
Swami Muktananda High School is located in Andheri(West) area.
