Amparo Arrebato (December 30, 1944 - March 15, 2004) was a Colombian symbol dancer.
Born Amparo Ramos Correa in Cali, Colombia, as a student she excelled in high-speed athletics and basketball. Later she became the most popular celebrity of the annual Santiago de Cali Fair [1] (http://www.cali.gov.co/publico2/feria/fering.htm).
Her prominence as dancer began in the 1960s, thanks to recognition of Dámaso Pérez Prado "The King of Mambo" [2] (http://www.laventure.net/tourist/prez_bio.htm), who invited her to join to his dance group. In 1968, the Puerto Rican salseros Richie Ray [3] (http://www.musicofpuertorico.com/en/ricardo_ray.html) and Bobby Cruz [4] (http://www.musicofpuertorico.com/en/bobby_cruz.html) increased her fame when they recorded the well-known tune "Amparo Arrebato", composed in honor of the then 23-year-old dancer.
She died of a heart attack at a hospital in Cali.
