Alcona Township is a township located in Alcona County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,089.
The unincorporated community of Alcona is located about one mile south of the township in neighboring Haynes Township.

Location of Black River, Michigan
- Black River is an unincorporated community in the township, about 25 miles south of Alpena on Lake Huron at the mouth of the Black River. It is just south of the Negwegon State Park at Template:Coor dms. The ZIP code is 48721 and the FIPS place code is 08800. The elevation is 590 feet above sea level.
- Hubbard Lake is an area around Hubbard Lake defined as a census-designated place (CDP). Portions of the CDP are within the township.
- Larson Beach is an unincorporated community within the township on eastern shore of Hubbard Lake at Template:Coor dms. The community is included in the Hubbard Lake CDP. The FIPS place code is 46200 and the elevation is 720 feet above sea level.
- Lost Lake Woods is an unincorporated community in the township defined as a census-designated place.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 172.0 km² (66.4 mi²). 149.3 km² (57.6 mi²) of it is land and 22.7 km² (8.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.21% water. Negwegon State Park is within the township and the southwest corner of the township is in the Huron National Forest.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,089 people, 524 households, and 361 families residing in the township. The population density is 7.3/km² (18.9/mi²). There are 1,313 housing units at an average density of 8.8/km² (22.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.89% White, 0.00% African American, 0.83% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 524 households out of which 14.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% are married couples living together, 2.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.08 and the average family size is 2.50.
In the township the population is spread out with 14.4% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 16.5% from 25 to 44, 30.9% from 45 to 64, and 34.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 58 years. For every 100 females there are 105.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.5 males.
