Alan Embree
|
Alan Duane Embree (born January 23, 1970 in The Dalles, Oregon) is a left-handed middle relief pitcher who plays for the Boston Red Sox. Before joining the Red Sox in the 2002 mid-season, he played for the Cleveland Indians (1992-1996), Atlanta Braves (1998), Arizona Diamondbacks (1998), San Francisco Giants (1999-2001), Chicago White Sox (2001) and San Diego Padres (2002).
Embree is Boston's lefty set-up man. Not afraid to throw inside, he relies primarily on two pitches: a 90 to 95 MPH four-seam fastball, and a sharp slider that is very effective when he can keep it down. He is particularly difficult for left-handed hitters. An excellent fielder, Embree has made only two errors in a 568-game career. He has a good move to first that keeps runners close.
In an 11-year career, Embree has a 28-28 record with 480 strikeouts and a 4.38 ERA in 515.1 innings pitched.
