Academic Kids:Missing Wikipedians
|
This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community. Some of them have left goodbye messages of one sort or another, often on their user page.
Other Wikipedians have left for an extended period and were listed here at some point, but have since returned, in which case they are no longer "missing".
- ²¹² (talk • contribs) – missing since 25 Oct 2003.
- -- April (talk • contribs) - last edit Dec 02, 2003.
- She has a couple edits in 2004 and 2005. Just busy elsewhere, it seems (see her user page.)
- 168... (talk • contribs) blanked his user page and was presumed to have left on March 7 2004 following disputes arising from the handling of "subvandalism" (see e.g. DNA)
- Abigail-II (talk • contribs), left 13 June 2004, blanked talk page and left message on Village Pump, explaining that too many people were deleting material without discussion on talk pages. "I've no interest in working on a system where people break down your work without discussing it on appropriate page."
- Academic Challenger (talk • contribs) Left the project on June 10, 2005, to devote more time to real life. Hopes to return.
- Amgine (talk • contribs) Has ended active involvement in en:Wikipedia due to the Matter of CheeseDreams in which the user was harassed, stalked, group-reverted, admins abused their privileges - and there was no mention by the arbcom. The system is gamed.
- Ark30inf (talk • contribs) left on October 24 2003 saying "I have found that if you are not here to do battle then nobody will listen to you. Thats not what I am about." He requested de-adminship and the deletion of his user page on 22 February 2004. "I then returned in late 2004 and tried to stick to just editing Arkansas articles to avoid stupid conflicts. Its an area that nobody appeared interested in at all. Then I got jumped on for the way I categorized my articles and all of them reverted before I even was given an opportunity to discuss the way I categorized my articles. I stepped on someone's pet peeve and they didn't feel like waiting to hear what I had to say. It was somehow URGENT to revert all the Arkansas categorization for some reason. Screw it. Thats my LAST attempt at Wikipedia."
- Brandon.irwin (talk • contribs) left on July 23, 2004, saying he felt that the project was fraught too much with errors and inconsistencies.
- Chan Han Xiang (talk • contribs), last edit was 1 January 2005.
- Chmod007 (talk • contribs) (David Remahl) - last edit Dec 2, 2004. Left a note saying "Enough is enough. Wikipedia will conquer the world, but I've got other things to do. At least for now."
- Corvus13 (talk • contribs) "Fine. I give up. Delete everything I've ever written. There appears to be some personal thing here where if you're not part of the clique, you're not welcome. Goodbye."
- Danakil (talk • contribs) this extraordinary user edited for only one and a half months, from 1 Aug to 13 Sep, 2004, yet during that time he amassed 3,009 edits. Many of these were controversial, concerning name changes to computer related articles. Despite having earned the enmity of quite a few of my fellow nerd-o-nauts, Danakil was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles. His work will be remembered and missed.
- Daniel Quinlan (talk • contribs) - last edit 1 May 2005 - see his user page for reasons.
- Dr Zen (talk • contribs) - Last logged-in edit March 12, 2005. Quoting a wikien-l message from jwales (http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-April/022799.html) on his user page: "And linking _very conveniently_ acknowledges that for a great many users, having the choice to simply click or not can be very very useful." He also left a goodbye message for certain Wikipedians with his last four edits.
- EddEdmondson (talk • contribs) - after editing off and on since 2002, left a note on his user page indicating that he's left.
- Finlay McWalter (talk • contribs) - "gone to Rutland", last contribution September 5, 2004

- Fonzy (talk • contribs) - retired May 2004: " I don't like change much (which some will probably know or guess why). I preferred Wikipedia more when it was smaller and I felt part of a mob."
- Fvw (talk • contribs) - last edit February 6, 2005. "Wikipedia is great fun and becoming a wonderful encyclopaedia, however it has sapped away too much of my time, time better spent on more creative outlets. I wish you all good luck and thanks for the wonderful work!"
- Gadykozma (talk • contribs) - Stated he was "taking wikivacation, probably permanent" on 22 Nov 2004. Last edit 21 Dec 2004.

- Harry Potter (talk • contribs) - Last edit 10 April 2004 - Had over 1000 edits, just disappeared.
- Hephaestos (talk • contribs) - last edit 8 May 2005 - has decided to leave after all. See his user page.
- We're (other users) so sorry to that hear you're leaving and we understand how much you're tired of being around here. You must have been a contributor though, except when you reverted the edits on any article. I apologized for vandalizing part of your user page (if I did), but I didn't over times before you left this site. We miss you, please come back anytime! -- Mike Garcia | talk 00:59, 3 May 2005
- Imran (talk • contribs) - Last edit: 3rd November, 2004 to say "Note: I am (as of Sept 04) currently inactive on Wikipedia".

- Jorge Stolfi (talk • contribs) - last edit 16 Dec 2004 - once a prolific contributor, was offered Adminship with only a few months as a registered user, but declined nomination. His contributions then started to scarce, until ceasing completely in the above-mentioned date. Reasons for departure are unknown, although it is possible that professional obligations may be keeping him away from the project.

- Marnanel (talk • contribs) - Last (logged in) edit: 18 Sep 2004. Left (http://www.livejournal.com/users/marnanel/552857.html) in solidarity with his wife when she was insulted less than a week after she started editing. Come back, Marn - don't let the buggers get you down.

- Optim (talk • contribs): Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Wikipedia in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. Sam Spade 04:03, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Piotr_Wozniak (talk • contribs) left with no bad feelings, see his homepage for his detailed explanation.
- Rbs (talk • contribs) - has not posted since March 11, 2004. No explanation. I hope he is ok, and that he returns soon. Kingturtle 00:41, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

- Reene (talk • contribs) Doesn't do Wikipedia anymore. Creator of both the m:Association of Mergist Wikipedians and the Wiki Wiffle Bat award.
- Renata (talk • contribs) - Once a regular contributor now a long term dissapearee. Last edit 1 Mar 2004
- RickK (talk • contribs) - one of the most active users on recent changes patrol, blanked his talk page and left a rather bitter goodbye message on his user page, after having been blocked via the three revert rule by a fellow administrator.
- A major loss. Rick, please reconsider. - Lucky 6.9 04:40, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Rotem Dan (talk • contribs) - last contributed 01:00, 26 Jul 2003...maybe he's over in Hebrew Wikipedia (http://he.wikipedia.org) now?
- Well, since July 2003, I'm on a multiple-year wikibreak from all Wikis, I guess it's from too much wikistress/addiction. I'm still proud of my membership though! I'll be back... muhahaha Rotem Dan 10:56, 31 May 2004 (UTC)
- Sjc (talk • contribs) left a note at User:Sjc/Goodbye explaining that "While a worthwhile project, [Wikipedia] is now so wrapped and warped by policy and little cliques that it barely qualifies as a wiki in any meaningful sense of the word."
