Aberdeen is a city located in Harford County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 13,842.

Geography
Aberdeen is located at 39°30'37" North, 76°10'9" West (39.510310, -76.169178)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.5 km² (6.4 mi²). 16.5 km² (6.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 13,842 people, 5,475 households, and 3,712 families residing in the city. The population density is 836.4/km² (2,166.2/mi²). There are 5,894 housing units at an average density of 356.1/km² (922.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 64.90% White, 27.38% African American, 0.25% Native American, 2.48% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 1.42% from other races, and 3.47% from two or more races. 3.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,475 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.8% are married couples living together, 17.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% are non-families. 26.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $39,190, and the median income for a family is $48,357. Males have a median income of $32,783 versus $26,025 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,940. 11.9% of the population and 9.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.9% of those under the age of 18 and 11.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Aberdeen Proving Ground
Aberdeen is home to the US military's Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) (http://www.apg.army.mil/). The proving ground was established by Act of Congress and came into operation in January 1918. APG is headquarters of the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command (TECOM). The proving ground occupies more than 72,500 acres in Harford County. More than 7,500 civilians and 5,000 military personnel work at APG.
A sex scandal at APG came into light in 1996.
Others
Baltimore Orioles legend Cal Ripken, Jr. grew up in Aberdeen. Cal and brother Billy are owners of the Aberdeen Ironbirds (http://ironbirdsbaseball.com/) minor league baseball team.
Frank Zappa lived in Aberdeen for a short period.
Aberdeen local radio station is WAMD broadcasting at 970 on the AM dial.
