Yu is a Goa'uld System Lord on the sci-fi television show, Stargate SG-1. To date in the series, Yu is the only Goa'uld who didn't assume the persona of a god while on Earth; he was known in human history as Yu the Great, the semi-divine first emperor of China.
One of the oldest Goa'uld, Yu is one of the leading voices on the council of System Lords, and is considered one of the least antagonistic Goa'uld towards the Tauri (Humans living on Earth), taking part in tripartide peace talks between the System Lords, the Tauri and the Asgard, and leading a combined System Lords force against Anubis, a rogue Goa'uld who wished to attack and conquer Earth. He warned Teal'c that he was being betrayed in "The Warrior." His attack on Ba'al provided the needed distraction for Jack O'Neill to escape.
Despite these actions, Yu's attitude towards the Tauri has been closer to ambivalence than friendship or animosity. This may be due in part to Yu's desire for continuance of the status quo between the System Lords, or his failing mental health later in the series.
He is in essence dying of old age, because he is unable to take on a new host and his sarcophagus is losing its recuperative effect on his body. His mind is being gradually affected by this, and he is showing signs of senility.
Yu's First Prime is an asian Jaffa, Oshu, who despite Yu's deteriorating mental health continues to carry out what he believes to be his master's will (often against Yu's own occasionally confused orders).
Yu was stabbed and apparently killed by RepliCarter (a replicator version of Samantha Carter) in the season eight episode Reckoning.
Yu is played by Vince Crestejo.
