Wound healing phases
|
Wound healing is usually divided into three distinct phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase, and the remodeling phase.
Inflammatory phase
The inflammatory cells migrate into the cell and monocytes start the phagocytosis of debris. This phase lasts as long as there are debris in the wound.
Proliferative phase
The proliferative phase is subdivided into the following phases. It lasts as long as the wound is not filled with new tissues.
- proliferation of fibroblasts
- contraction of the wound
Remodeling phase
The remodeling phase starts as soon as the wound is closed. It can last several months.
