Westerveld is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands.
The municipality Westerveld was established in 1998 out of de municipalities of Diever, Dwingeloo, Havelte en Vledder. Westerveld is being crossed by a channel the Drentsche Hoofdvaart. There are also two National Parks situated in the municipality, the Drents-Friese Wold and Dwingelerveld.

Dwingeloo
Dwingeloo is a town halfway between Meppel and Assen. The radio telescope of the Dwingeloo Radio Observatory is located on the edge of the Dwingeloo Heath, 3 km south of the village.
Diever
Diever lays on the other side of the Drentse Hoofdvaart. In July and August the local people of Diever play drama's of William Shakespeare. Diever is also called Shakespeare-town. The plays are being played in an open-air theater and are famous in the Netherlands. Also the people in Stratford-upon-Avon know that the local people of Diever play the things their city mate has written.
