Webley and Scott
|
Webley and Scott are a manufacturer of firearms, from Birmingham, England.
The company ceased manufacture of firearms in 1979, and now produces air pistols and air rifles.
Webley provided revolvers in both World Wars. Between the wars the introduction of the Firearms act limiting availability of handguns to civilians led to the development of their first air pistol in 1924.
Webley
The Webley company was founded by William Davies, who made bullet moulds, and was taken over in 1834 by his son-in-law Philip Webley, who changed to the production of guns, most famously revolvers. In 1897 Webley amalgamated with W & C Scott and Sons to become The Webley and Scott Revolver and Arms Company Ltd of Birmingham.
Production
Webley and Scott supplied military and police firearms, both revolvers and self-loading pistols (semi-automatic pistols).
