Water polo ball
This kind of ball is used in the sports water polo and canoe polo. It is known for its typically yellow colour and good grip, so that it can be held with one hand even though it's quite big. After much use the ball loses its grip or punctures at one of the seams and becomes unusable for match play. Balls come in two main sizes, a size 5 used by men and a size 4 used by women. Smaller balls are sometimes used by juniors for 'mini-polo' though these don't have a standard size and are often green.

New Water Polo ball
In the first half of 2005, FINA, the international governing body of aquatic sports, approved a change for water polo balls. The new rule permits a colored middle stripe (blue, green, red, black, or yellow—same as current) with the normal yellow stripes flanking the colored (see picture on right).
