Wantirna South, Victoria
|
Wantirna South is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, in the state of Victoria. It is in the Local Government Area of the City of Knox.
It serves as the headquarters of the Knox City Council. The Knox City Council's building was burnt down in 1994, and took a few years to be rebuilt. It is now a meeting place for councillors and the Mayor.
Another Wantirna South attraction is the Knox City Shopping Centre, which was first built in the 1970s. It had a major refurbishment in 2002 to make it a more popular area for young people. This was done by taking away the Towerpoint area, on the right of the precinct.
Wantirna South is also one of the Knox locations for the Victoria Police.
Another important building, across the road from the Knox Council headquarters, is Rembrandts. Rembrandts is a ballroom and formal eating place where social life takes place, including over-28s and debutant balls from various schools.
Schools in Wantirna South include Yawarra and Heany Park Primary School.
There is also a skatepark in Wantirna South, which was built in 1999 after council and public pressure.
