WOF

WOF is an acronym for "Warrant of Fitness".
WOF is a six or twelve monthly check of the safety of all motor vehicles in New Zealand. In large centres the testing is done at purpose built workshops administered by the Land Transit Authority but in small towns it is carried out by local service stations.
Originally intended to check only the brakes, steering and lights of vehicles in recent years it has broadened its scope to cover practically every aspect of vehicle safety such as faulty seat belts.
Increasingly in New Zealand the WOF is seen as being used as an instrument to remove older and unreliable vehicles from the roads.
