WL Gore and Associates

WL Gore and Associates is a company is most commonly known for the development of Gore-Tex.
The company was founded in 1957 by Bill Gore and his wife Genevieve in Newark, Delaware. Gore had been a research scientist working with fluropolymers at DuPont. He developed a process for insulating electrical wire with DuPont's Teflon, and this became Multi-tet, the company's first product.
Gore-Tex was invented by Robert W. Gore, son of the founders, again using Teflon (PTFE) coatings. The company manufactures and licences a wire range of products based on PTFE coating technology, including numerous applications of Gore-Tex.
