Vita Nuova Holdings Ltd is a company based in York, England that provides technology for embedded systems and distributed applications based upon the unique operating system Inferno. It also distributes the Plan 9 operating system.
Inferno was originally developed at Bell Labs by the creators of UNIX and C. Inferno is a small, efficient operating system used in embedded systems and distributed applications. In 2000, the founders of Vita Nuova Holdings Ltd obtained exclusive rights to the Inferno operating system.
The name of the company and its products were inspired by the literary heritage of Dante Alighieri, particularly by his Divine Comedy. "Vita Nuova" means "New Life" in Italian.
