Vambrace
|
Vambraces are "tubular" or "gutter" defenses for the forearm, developed first during the early 14th century. Usually they are made of leather, sometimes reinforced with longitudinal strips of hardened leather or metal (a crafting method named "splinted armor"), and worn with other pieces of armor. Vambraces are generally called arm guards, with or without separate couters, or elbow guards.
Often archers would wear leather vambraces to keep the inside of their forearm from getting hurt by the string of the bow or the fletching of the arrow.
