VDARE
|
VDARE is an editorial collective website which advocates reduced immigration into the United States and other immigration reforms. VDARE is the creation of Peter Brimelow (himself an immigrant from the United Kingdom) through his Center for American Unity. Brimelow is nominally a neoconservative, but the political viewpoints of the collective range from paleoconservative to isolationist, and from immigration reductionist to anti-immigrant. VDARE is widely supported in the immigration-reduction movement through links and reprints of its articles.
The name VDARE derives from Virginia Dare, the first child born to English immigrants in the New World, whom legend has it was transformed into a White Doe.
Notable VDARE guest contributors include: Virginia Abernethy, Sam Francis, Kevin B. MacDonald, Michelle Malkin, Paul Craig Roberts, Chilton Williamson, Steve Sailer, and Jared Taylor.
Controversy and criticism
Its critics charge that VDARE publishes strident and even racist or racialist material. For instance, VDARE has published work by the late Sam Francis, editor of the newspaper of the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens, whose webpage describes blacks as "a retrograde species of humanity." The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a controversial anti-hate group, has added VDARE to its list of watched groups, in part due to its publication of essays by Jared Taylor, head of the American Renaissance.
VDARE rejects this criticism, claiming instead to be neutral on all issues save immigration reduction.
