Quick question

Is it necessary to log out Wikipedia before logging off the Internet?? Georgia guy 23:31, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

No, but depending on your login settings, you might or might not need to re-login when you come back. olivier 23:33, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for telling this to me. Check out my new User page I created today. Georgia guy 23:35, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Edit summary

Hello. Please provide an edit summary. Thanks and happy edits. Hyacinth 02:53, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I noticed your edits to the template and thought I'd drop you a note saying thanks for the response. I can be reached at my talk page User talk:Hyacinth. No one is perfect, and if you check my edit history you will find I have left edits unsummarized (of course, when I started edit summaries where strongly suggested, as opposed to now when they are required) but we all should try. Thanks again. Hyacinth 02:50, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

France geo stubs

..so I wake up this morning ready to continue adding France-geo-stubs to articles, like I started last night, and I see an extra 100 or so in the category already, thanks to you and others - good work! :) Grutness|hello? Missing image

Thanks to YOU if you are the one who created the template france-geo-stub! Anyway, my addition of the too many French geo stubs was part of my attempt to clean up the huge list of Calvados stubs. The problem now is that most of the france-geo-stubs are in fact calvados-geo-stubs, which may remain stubs for quite a while. Thanks for your work! olivier 08:30, Jan 9, 2005 (UTC)

C'était moi - and I'm glad it's been of use! There are many more French geographical articles that are simpy listed as geo-stubs - some of them on pretty famous places that deserve bigger articles (Verdun?? Versailles???). A lot of them do seem to be in Calvados though. Hopefully having them all in a France-geo-stub folder should make it easier to find them and expand them. Grutness|hello? Missing image

Cities of France

Okay, now I'm confused... you asked me to add a "Cities of France" stub when I added France-geo-stubs, but when I do it comes up with a red link. Is this a new category that you're going to create, or has it a slightly different name? Grutness|hello? Missing image

No, the name of the category is: "Category:Cities, towns and villages in France". olivier 09:22, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)
Ah. OK - I'll add that in. Grutness|hello? Missing image

Culture of China

I know you've done quite a bit of work on that page, but we could use some extra help. Culture of China is now a candidate for Collaboration of the Week. Please vote at Wp:cotw#Culture_of_China. Thanks, Jiang 01:29, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Bank of China (Hong Kong)

Hi. Can you take a look at this article? It's my first stab at writing something virtually from scratch and I am not sure if it I've done everything (or anything) right. Thanks! --JuntungWu 17:17, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations - I just noticed that with the December update of Wikipedians by number of edits list, that you have finally passed me up in the number of edits in the main namespace category. We should form a club ' the honorary bot society'. :-) --mav 01:16, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hello there. I am recently being listed on RfC. Feel free to comment as you wish to. I regard it as a way out and to have the matter settled. Thanks. — Instantnood 18:13 Mar 1 2005 (UTC)

Anguiers

I'm sure that you're right, but I thought that I'd double check to make absolutely sure. The original article referred to 'F. Fouquet'; after some research I found that Nicolas' father was François. It seemed more likely to have been Nicolas who was being referred to — on the other hand, the orinal author must have had some reason for giving the initial F. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:25, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Honestly, I don't know. Since the castle was acquired and upgraded by Nicolas, it just made sense to me that the article should refer to him rather than to a François (I didn't know, by the way, that it was his father's first name). So, I admit that I might have been wrong. Nevertheless, if you look at [1] (http://www.insecula.com/contact/A005875.html), Nicolas is described as the sponsor of at least one of Michel Anguier's statues. olivier 16:54, Mar 2, 2005 (UTC)

I saw you were reverting this user. I've also undone some similar vandalism from User:210.54.196.132 a few minutes ago. It seems those IPs are related. Let's keep an eye out on them and block a range if he persists. I blocked User:210.54.197.44 for 24 hours. Mgm|(talk) 10:39, Mar 4, 2005 (UTC)

Image:Mont-Blanc.jpg

Greetings. I have listed Image:Mont-Blanc.jpg on Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion because it has no licensing information, and it's not listed in any articles. If you would like this image to be kept, please add source and licensing information, and include it in an article. If you need any help with this, just ask me. Thanks! – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 23:12, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)

Image copyright

Thank you for uploading Image:M nymburg 2.jpg and for stating the source. However, its copyright status is unclear, so it may have to be deleted. If it is open content or public domain, please give proof of this on the image page. If the image is fair use, please provide a rationale. Thank you.--Aqua 09:32, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)

I had simply uploaded the picture from the German Wikipedia, as I have mentioned on the picture page. This original image seems to have been deleted. I do not have any additional information about it. olivier 12:47, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

List of Hong Kong-related topics

Hello Olivier. I've recently created list of Macao-related topics, and I understand it's not easy to maintain a list. I would like to know your opinion on how the Hong Kong list should be going. Should it include any article with some reference to Hong Kong? And should a list by category, like list of Singapore-related topics and list of Taiwan-related topics (by category), be created? — Instantnood 13:46, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)

The main question is: what do you want this list for? As a matter of fact, most country-related lists tend to grow so much that it eventually does not really make sense to maintain them (see List of China-related topics for such an example). The List of Hong Kong-related topics is still fairly manageable and is useful in tracking HK-related changes. Therefore, I no not see any real need to include any article with some reference to HK, but rather articles directly related to HK. If what you want to create is a page where HK-related articles are easily retrievable, you may consider creating a portal. olivier 12:47, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)
Oh! you have created Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Hong Kong two days ago. Good job! olivier 13:06, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)
Right. The ultra-long lists are not useful at all for tracking related changes. And I have created a category for Hong Kong-related lists so I guess it has served some of the functions of a list by category. And by the way I need some people to help adding the contents into the portal. :-D — Instantnood 18:17, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)

Interview request

Olivier,

Do you mind if I ask you a few questions about Wikipedia for an American newspaper article? I'm at caraannaji@yahoo.com. My deadline is Saturday morning.

Thank you,

Sorry, I am receiving quite a few such requests, but I am not available for press interviews for the moment. olivier 12:47, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

To float, or not to float

I've put a question on whether or not we should float the images in the Trinity College discussion page. Personally, I feel that the non-float layout looks very bad in IE. Could you please reply with your opinion, and we'll try to get some sort of consensus with other users. Bluap 12:00, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I have posted a reply at Talk:Trinity College, Cambridge. olivier 12:47, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

Are you interested in being a Bureaucrat?

Hi, I am considering nominating you to become a Bureaucrat. The role would involve giving administrator or bureaucrat access to other users following consensus on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.
