Please don't just add links from one site to articles. It looks like you are advertizing for that site. Wikipedia is neutral and does not endorse sites. thank you Dori | Talk 17:33, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)

Please don't add any more links before replying at Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress#141.209.33.144 or you may be blocked. Dori | Talk 17:39, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)

If you do not stop advertizing, your edit privileges will be revoked. - UtherSRG 17:43, 27 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I may be the first librarian in history to get a warning. I am adding links to public domain resources located a ericdigests.org. This is a non-commerical site and the links are appropriate. This is not advertising.

Moved first from WP:VIP and then WP:CBU

  • Seems to be endorsing www.ericdigests.org by inserting external links to the site to several articles. It may be legitimate, but I don't think we need to have that many links to that site, or we won't be keeping a NPOV. I left a note at his talk page. Dori | Talk 17:38, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)
  • For the record: This guy was blocked 4 minutes after the warning. I only discovered that i actually had a talk page a few hours after my wikipedia beginning. Arent you, dear sysops, a bit heavy in the blocking button? Do you enjoy it? Muriel 17:48, 27 Jan 2004 (UTC)
    • Also for the record, I did not block the user. And the block lasted only 4 minutes. Dori | Talk 23:16, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)

  • Further noted, as these are public domain sources I am adding links to, I could cut and paste them into Wikipedia and this would be OK. Why can't I link to them? I don't think banning the IP address of the Central Michigan University Reference Desk in response to my innocent additions is a good response...
    • Fair enough. All I wanted was an explanation. My apologies for getting on your case, but as Wikipedia gets more popular, people start to come in and add links to their sites to generate more traffic. We would of course love to have the help of librarians, and in any case I know better than to upset a librarian :). Might I suggest that you get an account here? You will actually have more privacy as your IP address won't be shown, and no more info than a nickname and a password are asked (although an e-mail address is useful in case you forget your password). This makes communication easier, and you are less likely to be mistaken for a vandal. I will undo my undo-ing of your work. Dori | Talk 23:19, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)
    • Sorry to have caused concern. I probably should register at some point. I use three different computers (Reference Desk, Home, and Office) and I have contributions under all sorts of IP names. The AOL IP is different everytime I log in from home. I have had problems with registering at other places as people figure out who I am and bother me. I'll think about registering here. In the meantime, I can point this page out to anyone who thinks I am vandalizing. I plan on doing some more links to ericdigests.org as I am too lazy to take the public domain content and rewrite it for Wikipedia. But I thinks the links will be of value to end users. I also have a few articles I want to write. I have done a few already but want to do some more. Best wishes. (141.209.33.144)
