UserLand Software is a US software company founded by Dave Winer, who co-developed the XML-RPC protocol with Microsoft in 1995. UserLand sells Web content management and blogging software packages and services. UserLand Manila, a publishing system based on the company's earlier product, Frontier, can host large weblog communities and discussion groups. Radio Userland is a client-side weblog system incorporating an RSS aggregator, which was probably the first program to both send and receive audio files as RSS enclosures (see podcasting).
UserLand was an early driving force in enabling users to create and aggregate web-based content using RSS, particularly the version called Really Simple Syndication. For Radio Userland customers, Userland developed the first RSS feeds for the New York Times.
