After almost 5,700 edits and almost a year of participation, I have decided to no longer participate as a Wikipedia editor. The reasons.
- Wikipedia is becoming too big, as I write this there are almost 500,000 articles. I can't just keep up with it no more. Wikipedia was only 40,000 articles big when I first seen it, a major cleanup is in order.
- Too many vandals and trolls. They know who they are.
- The deletion system is still flawed. Ever since Norman Walsh was deleted I knew the deletion system was broken. While articles on major notable schools get deleted obscure minor fictional charcters get kept in their thousands.
- Too many stubs and substubs.
There are many more reasons, but after the tragic death of a girl close to where I work[1] (http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&q=cribbs+causeway+&btnG=Search+News), I feel I must do more in my life before I die and that means not wasting time with deletionist vandals who vandalize VFD all the time. Also, It is a sad fact that countries like Burundi get stubs, especially since I know someone from that country while while fictional lands get featured articles. Hopefully wikipedia will evolve one day, but it will take a radical overthrow of the Nerd Point of View (NPOV) that currently dominates the wiki.
This is a major contibutor who is resigning, one who spent many thousands of hours on the project, even getting an article which I helped authored get mentioned in a news article about Wikipedia. I won't be back. If I were to come back, Wikipedia will have to be 500% reformed and that will not happen for the forseeable future.
So there you have it.
