How to VFD

If you feel the need to nominate an article for deletion, please follow the process below.

For images and other media: please visit Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion.

For short articles or stubs: please consider if a better solution might be to merge the stub into a larger article to provide context. This does not require a vote, you can simply be bold and do so.

To list an article/page for deletion, follow this simple three-step process: (replace PageName with the name of the page to be deleted)

I.
Edit PageName.

Enter the following text at the top of the page:

Be sure to include "subst:", not just vfd; this is easier on the servers.
II.
Create its VfD subpage.

You should see a prominent link to "this article's entry" in the new VfD text.
Follow that link (to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/PageName) and enter this text:

Include a reason after text= . Suggest what action should be taken for the article, and sign your name.
III.
Add a line to VfD.

Follow   this edit link (https://academickids.com:443/encyclopedia/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2024_November_21&action=edit)   and add a line to the bottom of the page:

As a courtesy, use PageName in the edit summary, so people can go to the page without loading all of VfD.

There. Wasn't that easy?

An alternate method of listing a page for deletion:

(wherever PageName occurs below, use the name of the page to be deleted instead.)

(The current UTC date is November 21, 2024. Does the last day-heading on VfD reflect this date? If not, try refreshing before using this method)

  1. Edit the page you want to delete, insert (not just vfd) at the top of that page, and save page.
  2. Follow the "vote to keep or delete" link to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/PageName and add a (crucial) link and sub-section heading:
    ===PageName===
  3. Under the section, describe, in accordance with our deletion policy, why the page should be deleted and clearly write what action you think should be taken for the nominated article to assist others in determining consensus. Don't forget to sign and datestamp (using ~~~~).
  4. Save page.
  5. Come back to this page and copy the following text:

  6. Edit the appropriate date section, using this edit link (https://academickids.com:443/encyclopedia/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2024_November_21&action=edit), or click on today's date from the table of contents, then click on the edit next to the date, but never the "[edit]" link beside another VfD-ed page's heading (those headings are included from a template, so you would be editing the wrong page); paste the copied text below the last VfD-ed page's call.
  7. Don't forget to replace PageName with the name of the page that you are proposing for deletion.
  8. As a courtesy, use PageName as the edit summary, so people can go directly to the article instead of having to load all of VfD.
  9. Save page.

Useful boilerplates (or, an easier way to get the wrongtitle boiler plate without having to look at a picture of k. d. lang)

stub

substub

Now, all we need is a Template:Bullshit boilerplate ^_^
