Hello, I'm Karl Ward. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but I've spent the majority of my adult life in New York, New York. I studied English (specifically poetry) and computer music at Columbia College, receiving a B.A. in English and Comparative Literature.
I started writing articles on Wikipedia after an airline security guard explained to me that the SSSS on my boarding pass meant I had to submit to intrusive security screening at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Then I started writing a lot of other articles, mostly biographies of people I've met or musicians I follow. My interests are, more or less:
- privacy
- civil liberties
- peace
- music
- biography, of just about anyone I've met
- poetry, mostly of poets I've met or studied closely
- country music, but not that toilet fodder that passes for country music on American radio
- rock music, in most of its forms
- indie rock, in particular
- history, usually of places I have actually lived
- Unix
- Linux
- Perl
