User:Gro-Tsen

Hi, I'm David Alexander Madore (sometimes called "Ruxor" or "Gro-Tsen"), presently a research student at the University of Orsay, France and assistant professor at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.

My Web site: http://www.eleves.ens.fr:8080/home/madore/ - and if you wish to know more about me specifically, see my personal info page (http://www.eleves.ens.fr:8080/home/madore/ego.html).

I plan to contribute mainly to articles on mathematics and particularly on algebra; my research specialty is algebraic geometry or, more precisely, arithmetic geometry (but I yet have to write that page); but I also have a great interest for set theory.

I am also interested in computers: computer science and programming languages in particular (I'm the inventor of Unlambda), but various other things such as the Unicode standard, the Linux operating system, and so on.

Among my other eclectic fields of interest: linguistics, astronomy, calendars, zen and various other things. Incidentally, I'm gay.

Shameless plugs

A few links from my own Web site which might be the basis for interesting Wikipedia articles:

TODO on Wikipedia

(Please don't hesitate to comment on this.)

  • Write article on Orsay, essentially translating the French version (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orsay) which I just wrote. Write article on the Université de Paris-Sud (in French and English).
  • Make corrections to article on UTC (leap seconds were introduced in 1972 only: before that, the relation with TAI was more complicated than an integer offset). Probably need to edit the latter article as well.
  • Add a few things to the article on color.
  • Reorganize the article on the tarot (the info is good, but it's a mess).
  • Entirely rewrite the page on quines: merely giving a lot of example isn't interesting.
  • Try to write a number of pages on algebraic geometry. The ¤100-worth question is: how much detail should go into this? I definitely shouldn't rewrite the entire EGA here.
  • Specifically concerning the article on schemes, I should rewrite it so as to make the geometrical intuition clearer: make the article more didactic and less formal.
  • I guess I should also write a few things about set theory, the axiom of choice and so on.

Random musings and meme pool

General precept: an article should be self-standing as much as possible. Don't disseminate information across several articles (here is not Everything (http://www.everything.com/) but Wikipedia) when they really have to be read together; separation is no excuse for bad organization. (Typical example: it just doesn't make sense to have a page for major arcana and minor arcana separate from the one on tarot: nobody can be interested in the one without being interested in the other; and this would be unthought of in a "normal" encyclopedia.)

i18n is a hell of a problem. Sorry, but despite my goodwill I can't bear to rewrite the same info twice (in French and English): it just makes me go mad.

Still not sure I understand the rules for capitalization in entry titles: have to read the FAQ/howtos once more.

Dear myself: you should be writing real articles rather than this vanity page (of sorts).
