DF08 Achievements and Major Contributions

• English: Mention on Great editing in Progress, Barnstar, Beijing + Expressways (PRC/CH), initiated WikiProject on Transportation in China. Am resuming edits in the Macintosh world.
• Chinese: Beijing Expressways, Road transportation in general, initiated WikiProjects on Transportation in China and Expressways overall.

To a certain extent: Italian

I consider my native language to be English, that without a doubt, as I was brought up in an English-speaking environment in Switzerland. My 1st foreign language (formerly my mother tongue by birth) is Chinese; I can speak it relatively well, although asking me to write a letter to, say, a local official, in Chinese, would get me sweating. My 2nd foreign language is German (I picked it up in 1991), my 3rd foreign language French (1994), 4th one Italian (1996).

I will more likely than not make a few grammatical errors in all other languages -- so if you see something grammatically wrong in the other versions of Wikipedia I'm lending a hand in -- I'm trying. ;)

Since moving back to Beijing in 2000 my Chinese has seen better days come day by day while my other non-English languages have seen better days go day by day. I'm trying to stop that by picking up with my German, French and Italian, and bringing them back to 1999-levels (best levels) by mid-2005.

• DF08, say hello to the Public: As of 15 October 2004, all texts and new images/graphics released as public domain images. (12.10.2004)
• Early October 2004: Most work is done on the expressways of China as more and more expressways are given a new "infobox". Chinese Wikipedia: Infobox, template and more information and more articles on PRC expressways are underway. (10.10.2004)

Style

English orthography: British English (-ise)

Numbering: comma (,) to separate thousands (and above); dot (.) to indicate decimal points.
For example: £ 1,234.56 = one thousand two hundred and thirty four pounds and fifty-six pence.

Date format: DD.MM.YYYY (for example: 29.12.1996); also MONTH (words) DD th, YEAR (for example: December 29th, 1996). Leading zeroes are used only with the first format (e.g. 1.1.1997 and 01.01.1997, never January 01th, 1997).

DF08 Diplomacy

Basic Principles:

• Be nice. Everyone's a Wikipedian.
• Be insightful. Contribute and tell.
• Be wide-eyed. Let that NPOV sink in.
• No bare teeth, please. Unrest is uncool.
• "Thanks", "please" and such words should be natural politesse, not forced upon you.

What's NOT a minor edit?

If any one of these conditions are met, I don't mark the edit as minor:

• Major changes in content (more than 10%);
• Addition of images (any number);
• Categorisation;
• Removal of stubs/substubs;
• Content reorganisation;
• Addition or removal of a section of a full number (e.g. Section 2, not Section 2.1)
• Content reformatting.

If a stub was created (which lead to the creation of the article), the article is created as a minor edit.

Addition of languages are minor edits.

Me and Stubs

I personally do not like to create articles which are less than about three paragraphs and have little content. It's infrequent, but not absolutely rare, to see me create articles that are, upon creation, stubs. I do not create articles which are substubs.

My attitude to stubs is, however, despite my previously stated policy, definitely not anti-stub. Stubs should be given a chance -- an attempt at life (so to speak) -- at Wikipedia. When I encounter a stub, I never vote it for deletion; quite the opposite, should I know more about the article described by the stub, I try to do my part in replenishing it. When I think it's got enough content, the stub is removed by me. Substubs are given equal treatment.

Neutrality

I maintain full neutrality on the issues of politics and religion, and thus do not edit them (however, I do edit law articles I'm familiar with). Full neutrality means that my viewpoint on these issues is exactly the same as common consensus (even if I have my own viewpoints, these are kept for myself). Full neutrality avoids extremities. Naturally, full respect is maintained for all under my full neutrality stance. The purpose of such a stance is to avoid edit wars and other methods of unrest or dispute.
