Hi, I'm a contributor to encyclopedias and handbooks also in dead tree versions. At wikipedia, I'm filling out lacunae in areas that are from my leisure world as well as from areas of professional (scholarly) interest.
While (the English-language) Wikipedia is overall a most interesting and very good project, it still suffers from some problems, including the one that those people who have the final say about what is the "truth" (in the sense of scholarly accuracy) of an article's contents are, in general and the way our system of knowledge is set up, not really (yet) qualified to do so. (What I mean is that they are generally not senior scholars but usually graduate students and the like.) As the problem is in parts very similar to that of the editing of law reviews, here (http://www.legalaffairs.org/issues/November-December-2004/review_posner_novdec04.html) is a link to a currently much-discussed article by Judge Posner on this topic.
