University of Kent Students' Union
|
The University of Kent Students' Union, also known as Kent Union, is the student representative body for students at the University of Kent.
It has many notable features, though one of the most famous that has even appeared in many university guides is that it has the unique position of "Duck Warden" amongst its many office bearers (as part of the Junior College Committee for Keynes College, currently held by Matthew Newbold).
The Union has developed heavily over the years. In 1998 a substantial construction programme was completed that included a highly successful multi-purpose shop, the phenomenally popular "The Venue" nightclub and "The Lighthouse" bistro.
Kent has traditionally had a reputation for being a highly apathetic students' union, however in recent years this has been strongly disproven by substantial increases in participation in Union life at many levels, including voter turn out, the number of candidates standing in Union elections and attention given to the workings of the Union.
