Uncle Fester is a character in The Addams Family. He was played by Jackie Coogan in the TV show (famous as Charlie Chaplin's sidekick in The Kid, 1921), and Christopher Lloyd in the movies.
In the original sitcom he is said to be Morticia's uncle, but in the movie versions he is Gomez's brother.
Uncle Fester was derived from a character drawn by cartoonist Charles Addams. However, these were single page cartoons, with no stories or character names. Nevertheless, the character is recognisable in a number of cartoons, both by his appearance (bald, stooping, sunken eyes), and behaviour (e.g. turning the shower to a special "scalding" setting, feeding his garden plants on blood plasma, or releasing an eagle on the neighbour's homing pigeons). But he is rarely if ever shown in the same cartoons as the rest of the family with Gomez and Morticia, even for family celebrations like pouring boiling oil on carol singers. It may be that he was introduced to the family at the time of the sitcom for dramatic convenience. It is known that the name was chosen by Addams at that time.
Uncle Fester also appeared in an NES video game titled Festers Quest.
